The Stafford County Courthouse was dedicated Oct. 4, 1929 and is the only triangular courthouse in Kansas. The design of the building is known as "Modern American." It has massive brick walls embellished with carved Indiana limestone. The dark green terra cotta about the front entrance gives a touch of color and emphasizes the size and beauty of the entrance pillasters. The front of the building faces toward the northwest and diagonally across from the beautiful town square. The inside stairs are polished American gray marble from Missouri quarries and the main corridors are lined with the same kind of marble. The woodwork throughout the building is Lauaan Mahogany from the Philippine Islands. The building was designed by Mann & Company, Architects and Engineers, of Hutchinson, and built by Spencer Construction Co. of Spencer, Iowa. The courthouse is open Monday through Friday 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm.
