About this Exploration:

Punished Woman's Fork, located about one mile south of Scott State Park on K-95 is where the last Indian battle in Kansas was fought. A monument overlooks a cave, canyon, and the bluffs where the Northern Cheyenne hid, waiting in ambush for the U.S. Cavalry.

In the battle that followed, Commanding Officer Lt. Colonel Williams H. Lewis was mortally wounded, the last officer to be killed in military action in the state of Kansas.

Battle Canyon has been designated as a state and national historic site.
