About this Exploration:

Butterfield Trail Museum
In 1887, Russell Springs was the county seat of Logan County and this building was the Logan County Courthouse.

Come see the hole in wall where it was torn out in 1963 to retrieve court documents to be moved to the new, and present day, courthouse located in Oakley.

In 1964, Russell Springs established a historical society and the old courthouse became the Butterfield Trail Museum and Historical Association.

The Museum is wonderfully architectural and features exhibits about local and regional history including; The Last Courthouse War in Kansas, Butterfield's Overland Despatch & The Smoky Hill Trail, The German Family Massacre and Pioneer Frontier Living.

The museum is open May-Labor Day Tuesday-Saturday 9 a.m.-Noon and 1-5 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m.
