About this Exploration: In 1959 residents in Jewell County started to show interest in preserving the heritage of our county and in 1960 the Jewell County Historical Society was organized. A. W. Schlagle donated his building in downtown Mankato for the Museum in memory of his wife, Anna Colson Schlagle in 1961. Dubuge Packing Co. ended up giving $500 to the Society to kick off a fund drive for the Museum. The south side of the Museum was bequeathed to the Congressman Wint Smith and was opened in May of 1977. The society owns and operates the Museum today and there is lots to see to stop by the Museum today to browse through the great history in Jewell County. Museum Hours: Mid-April - Mid-October
